While I could still hear the buzzing of thousands of flies at a distance of 20 meters, the sweetish smell of rotten flesh brought tears to my eyes. The male had killed a hippopotamus during the night. Now the entire pride was laying in some distance from the bloated carcass that was rotting in the sun.
Only one cub was lying in the shadow of the dead hippo. Another, older female had been already on her way back to the shady hill, to join the rest of the pride. I was immediately captivated by the restlessness and deviousness she displayed.
