STORY
I’m out with a group from the Maasai tribe in the Maasai Mara. We reach a spot where a herd of buffalo is grazing. The Maasai get out of the jeep first and ask us to wait. We’re allowed to get out after 20 minutes. A Maasai says to me that the “black death” is dangerous, and you should wait to see how the buffalo react when you approach them. It’s difficult to guess the reaction of fully-grown male buffalo, as they can be highly-aggressive. That’s why the Maasai fear of buffalo is more than justified.
