STORY
One evening in Botswana, we follow a pack of wild dogs until we can no longer take any pictures because of the failing light. The next morning, we follow the same route once more, as we had heard from a guide about a fight between two packs of wild dogs. As we reach a heavily overgrown area, we discover a clearing. We see the pack, around five animals, lying there in the shade. A female is injured and you can see her pain. There are a number of wounds on her right flank and her snout. The competing wild dogs lie a few hundred metres away, in the shade of the trees. If a member of a pack of wild dogs is injured, the other members of the pack take care of the animal. Depending on the extent of the injury, they bring her food and “care” for her. Like the young, the injured animal gets to eat first, before the other members of the pack eat.
